Inner-city development wins award

JOHANNESBURG – Check out the CBD's award-winning property.

A rejuvenated inner-city building has been recognised for its high standards.

Frank’s Place, owned and rejuvenated by City Property, has been awarded the South African Property Owners Association (Sapoa) Award For Residential Developments at the 50th Sapoa convention.

The awards honour property innovators, developers, owners and the built environment professionals who, through the quality of their products, contribute significantly to the enhancement of the property industry.

Situated in the Johannesburg CBD, the apartment building was converted from old, rundown offices and now epitomises contemporary city living.

It is the first time City Property entered the awards and won, and according to the managing director of the company, Jeffrey Wapnick, it is an honour to be recognised by others in the industry for the work City Property does in the Tshwane and Johannesburg CBDs.

“It is a special award, seeing as we were competing with other residential projects across South Africa and it just shows that you can find quality accommodation in the heart of the CBD,” he said.

“We are committed to providing quality accommodation to city dwellers, but it is always special to be recognised that the work we do is on par with other residential developments in South Africa.”

Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor Mpho Parks Tau commented that Johannesburg’s population is growing at about 10 000 people per month – and it was for this very reason that City Property identified the need for more accommodation in the inner city and opted to convert a vacant office block into residential apartments.

“We worked closely with Gass Architecture Studios on this project and there is real synergy between us, as they share our passion for urban renewal,” said Wapnick.

“We are committed to the CBD and, as this award illustrates, there are as many opportunities to safely and conveniently live, work and play in our inner cities as there are elsewhere.”
