City Parks hosts activities for Mandela Day

JOHANNESBURG – City Parks to honour Mandela with a host of activities.

The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo will once again commemorate Mandela Day with a host of activities taking place across the city.

The entity hosted two flagship events on 16 July across the city, and is set to host various activities across its seven regions on 18 July.

In Region E, City Parks employees will visit two centres for the elderly in Lombardy East, namely the Thembalami Care Centre For The Elderly and Sithandiw Disabled Centre. Both organisations will see their vegetable gardens upgraded and rooms painted by the entity. Both visits and activities are set to run from 9am to 1.30pm.

Furthermore, the entity will spoil the elderly from the Joseph Gerard Home in Alexandra with a trip to Joburg Zoo which will include a scenic tour of the Big Five and a picnic for their enjoyment.

MMC for Community Development in the City of Joburg, councillor Chris Vondo encouraged residents to honour the late Statesman by playing their part in protecting the environment and taking care of it.

“Mandela Day is a vehicle to appeal to citizens to take a stand against destroying our environment by advocating for green and clean cities that are conducive to growing happy, active and healthy families,” he concluded.
