Norwood police warn residents on vehicle thefts

NORWOOD – Residents are warned to be more careful.

Norwood Police Station is urging motorists to ensure their valuables are kept out of sight when leaving their cars parked within the precinct.

This stern warning comes hot on the heels of a recent increase in theft out of motor vehicle incidents in Norwood, especially along Grant Avenue.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Nurse Sanyane, explained that these thefts were often a result of motorists leaving valuables in sight of thieves.

“People often leave their cellphones, wallets or laptops on their seats when they leave the car, attracting thieves who often spot them and steal them,” she said.

She urged motorists to rather put their valuables in the car’s boot where it is out of sight, and also to physically ensure their cars are locked before leaving.

This would put off car jammers, who also targeted motorists parking their cars along the avenue.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant with their valuables and report any suspicious activities to Norwood Police Station,” Sanyane concluded.
