A word of warning

ROSEBANK – Police urge all to be vigilant when in the area.

Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, spokesperson for Rosebank Police Station, has urged residents, shoppers and visitors to be vigilant when shopping in the area.

According to Mdletshe, with the precinct expanding and construction sites increasing, street robberies are on the rise.

The spokesperson said suspects pose as professionals and strike when victims least expect it. “Most victims are followed from restaurants and from places of entertainment,” said Mdletshe.

“The perpetrators prowl in these areas, identify anything of value on victims and then follow them.”

He warned residents, shoppers and visitors to refrain from flashing expensive gadgets, whether in restaurants or walking in the street. “Keep your iPads, cellphones and anything of value safe.

“As much as it is an inconvenience, to avoid being targeted, please try not to walk around with your cellphone in hand.”
