Security guard injures another while on duty

HOUGHTON – Colleague shoots and injures another while on duty.

 

A suspect has been arrested following a shooting in Houghton on 10 July.

According to Sergeant Makoma Tshwale, spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, three security guards from a private security company were on duty on 1st Avenue in Houghton Estate when the incident occurred happened.

Tshwale said that one security guard reported finding one of his colleagues shot in the right side of his torso when he came back from the restroom. The victim was allegedly shot by the third guard who was posted at the gate with them and he was subsequently arrested.

“It is unclear whether the shooting was direct intent or an accident,” said Tshwale.

“Paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was taken to Milpark Hospital where he is recovering.”

According to the police spokesperson, the perpetrator was arrested and a case of attempted murder has been opened.

“We are still investigating,” said Tshwale.

“The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.”
