UJW to handover over 5 000 dental health packs during Mandela Day

HOUGHTON – UJW to commemorate Mandela Day with dental health campaign in Alex

The Union of Jewish Women, together with Colgate, will make children’s smiles a little brighter this Mandela Day with their successful Catch the Cavity initiative.

The organisation’s various branches, which include Johannesburg, recently hosted the campaign across the country and collected dental healthcare packs which will be donated to young pupils at disadvantaged pre-primary and primary schools during and after Mandela Day, commemorated on 18 July.

Colgate will also donate approximately 5 000 dental health packs containing toothpaste, toothbrushes and educational material on dental health. Additionally, oral hygienists are set to attend handover visits to some of the schools to give advice on dental hygiene.

Cindy Kree, executive director of the UJW Johannesburg, explained that the donated packs would be donated to various schools and centres in and around the city. “We’ll be distributing to an after-care centre in Alex as well as two organisations, namely the Sandringham Lodge and Yad Aharon, on 18 July,” she explained.

Another handover will take place on 22 July at three primary schools in Alex while a third handover, on 21 July, is on the cards but is yet to be confirmed.

The organisation expressed gratitude for the donated packs, once again stressing the importance of dental healthcare for young children.

Other UJW branches taking part in the campaign this year include Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London and Pretoria.
