Johannesburg East Cluster commander takes to streets to eradicate drugs

NORWOOD – Police have arrested three suspects in possession of drugs.

Commander of the Joburg East Cluster, Major General Dimakatso Ndaba and her management team conducted a raid on 5 July at several places in Hillbrow, Yeoville, Jeppe, Norwood and Cleveland.

Ndaba’s management team included seven commanders from Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville police stations. The team searched secondhand dealerships, scrapyards, liquor outlets and conducted a stop-and-search operation on the streets.

“Most of the secondhand dealers and liquor outlets who were not complying with the law were warned. We also confiscated illegal cigarettes from vendors who ran away when they saw us and left their stalls alone,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi of Jeppe Police Station.

He added that during the operation, the police received information from an informer in Jeppe that there were men dealing in drugs in Bez Valley. According to Munyayi, the police then proceeded to the location and conducted a raid.

“Three men between the ages of 35 and 40 were searched and drugs were found inside a box of Romany Creams and a black plastic bag with dagga inside was also found,” he explained.

The suspects were arrested and taken to Jeppe Police Station where they were detained. They are expected to appear in court soon while police investigations continue.
