Greenside High takes centre stage

GREENSIDE – Greenside High School takes part in recent acting competitions and excels.

Greenside High School entered the play Shwele Bawo! (A grave injustice) into the Edenvale Acting and Drama Society (Eads) One Act Plays Festival and won the competition.

The play was directed by student Rhea-Vera Hicks.

Shwele Bawo! placed in the top five at the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (Feda).

At Repertory Amateur Players Society (Raps), the following students were nominated:

According to Janet Unterslak, a staff member at Greenside High School, the adjudicators comments were, “Excellent choice of play, absolutely perfect for festivals. The direction of this piece is superb. It is a piece that every drama student should see because of its acting, movement, set manipulation and direction.”

Greenside also entered a second play into the same competitions. The cast of the play, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, won the first runner-up award, which was directed by Asher Pardey, and Layla Mayet was stage manager.

At Raps, the cast was nominated for Best Ensemble and Best Supporting Actor – Kirsten Johnson.
