JOBURG – Ward 74 Democartic Alliance promises to serve the community well.

THE Democratic Alliance has announced that Jack Cooper, the councillor for Ward 74 has resigned.

Mervyn Cirota, DA spokesperson in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature said, “Until the elections, Dave Fisher will assist residents with any problems and issues, together with councilor Martin Louw.” Fisher is set to replace Cooper as the DA candidate for Ward 74 in the 3 August local government elections.

Ward 74 covers the suburbs of Melrose, Melrose Estate, Birdhaven, Orchards, Rouxville, Highlands North, Raydene, Greswold, Kew, Bramley, Elton Hill and Winston Ridge.

Fisher, who has lived in the northern and northeastern suburbs of Johannesburg throughout his life, has been active in politics for many years and in many different guises. He said he intends to bring, among others, his considerable experience and skill set gained from many years in the computer industry, both technical and managerial, to the city council so as to positively benefit all citizens of Johannesburg and to satisfy his compelling need to ‘make a difference’.

He has, in the 26 years that he has lived in Winston Ridge, had an active interest in local affairs and in the process developed a strong knowledge of town planning processes and procedures. The new Ward 74 councillor was very active in ensuring that the interests of surrounding suburbs were taken account of throughout the initial phases of the Melrose Arch development and also in numerous other smaller developments.

Fisher was a young Progressive Party member and was very involved in both Helen Suzman’s and Zac de Beer’s campaigns when they were running for office.

He has been involved in Ward 74 as chairperson of the DA branch, and in Ward 73 as campaign manager for a successful by-election.

“I will endeavour to serve the residents of Ward 74 with enthusiasm and dignity and to advance the DA’s aim of freedom, fairness and opportunity,” he said.
