Three suspects sentenced to 30 years for various charges

PARKVIEW- Three suspects have been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to Parkview Police Station’s Sergeant Iris Phoko, justice has been served after three suspects were sentenced to 30 years in prison.

She said the three suspects were arrested three years ago and explained the situation. “On 29 October 2013, three suspects were driving a taxi in Roosevelt Park where they robbed two women and drove off.”

While patrolling in the policing precinct, Constable Lawrence Phadima Makhudu witnessed what had occurred and followed the taxi heading towards John Adamson Drive in Roosevelt. He then alerted Colonel Sandile Mkhize for backup and explained what had transpired.

Makhudu stopped the taxi in Emmarentia and searched the three suspects and found one firearm in the driver’s possession, two cellphones, dagga, and car-jamming devices. The three were arrested.

“The victims were called to identify their belongings, and the suspects were charged with possession of a firearm, armed robbery, and possession of suspected stolen property and with jamming devices,” added Phoko.

She said the suspects had remained in custody until they were sentenced on 19 June at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The investigating officer for this case was Parkview police’s Constable Nyiketani Nkuna.
