Two suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and stolen property

YEOVILLE – Two bust with unlicensed gun

Two suspects were arrested in Yeoville on the corner of De La Rey and Becker streets for possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen property.

Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville Police Station said the police were following up on information about the suspects who were allegedly involved in robbing people at OR Tambo International Airport.

“They noticed a vehicle entering a basement of a block of flats on the corner of De La Rey and Becker streets. When they followed it, one occupant jumped out and ran away,” explained Malatji.

“The other two [suspects] were stopped and searched. In one suspect’s possession, a 9mm firearm was found with the serial number filed off. The police searched the vehicle and found two bags containing cellphones and an undisclosed amount of foreign currency.”

The suspects were detained and are expected to appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen property.
