One suspect shot dead during robbery gone wrong in Hillbrow

HILLBROW – Hillbrow shop owner shoots suspect dead during botched robbery.

A suspect was recently gunned down by a shop owner during a failed robbery incident in Hillbrow.

The incident unfolded on 29 May when two men were allegedly trying to rob a local store.

According to Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for the Hillbrow Police Station, the two entered the store pretending to be customers, and then one of them pulled out a firearm.

“The other suspect then proceeded to produce a knife and both of them approached the cashier, demanding money,” Zondo explained.

“While the two were allegedly carrying out their crime, the shop owner saw the incident unfold and took out his licensed gun and shot one of the suspects dead.”

The incident was then reported to the police, who arrested the second suspect and detained him at Hillbrow Police Station. Zondo confirmed that the police also managed to recover the suspect’s firearm and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and attempted robbery.

“The suspect has since appeared at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court where the case was postponed,” he said. The case continues.
