Life for man who raped little boy

JOBURG - Johannesburg Magistrates' Court has sentenced a 43-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping boy (8).

According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi from Johannesburg East Cluster, the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Isaac Madoda Mngomezulu (43) to life in prison for raping an eight-year-old boy, now 12.

Joburg East cluster commander, Major General Dimakatso Ndaba said that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to people who do not respect others, especially those who rape women and children. She said her cluster will make sure that people who commit such crimes will be brought to book and punished.

Munyayi explained, “The victim’s mother said that on 27 May, 2012, at about 5pm, after returning from church with her son to her home in Hillbrow, the victim went straight to bed to sleep.”

The mother testified that her son woke up at about 3am and said he wanted to go to the toilet but had messed himself before he could get there. She then asked him why he could not hold himself in and he said that he couldn’t because his anus was sore.

He then confessed that Mngomezulu, who attended church with them, was having sex with him. The victim said he would fetch him from school every day and take him to his house. There he would blindfold him and cover his mouth with a cloth, or sometimes paper, and rape him.

“The victim said Mngomezulu threatened to kill him if he told anyone. The boy said the assault started in 2011 when he was seven years old,” said Munyayi.

The child’s mother reported the matter to Hillbrow Police Station and a case was opened. The docket was transferred to the Family Voilence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit for investigation and Mngomezulu, then 39 years old, was arrested.

The mother testified that the accused was very nice towards her family and would buy her son’s school uniform. She said she did not know about the rape until the day her son told her.

“He appeared in court until he was sentenced to life in prison last week, this was four years after he was arrested because of further investigations and court postponements,” informed Munyayi.
