Three carjacking suspects’ are behind bars since Bramley police officers nabbed them after a recent car hijacking incident in Marlboro.
The dramatic arrest came after the three men allegedly robbed a motorist of her car and valuables on 19 May at about 7am as she was driving to work.
According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, as the victim stopped at a shop to buy food, she was allegedly approached by the suspects who were all armed. “The suspects allegedly hijacked the car with the victim still inside, and drove off, eventually dropping her off at the nearby school,” Maphakela said.
The matter was then reported to the police who, acting on the information received, managed to track down the first suspect in Alexandra and found him with the drop-off vehicle, which was used to drop off the suspects and valuables stolen from the victim’s car.
Maphakela confirmed that the police, still acting on information received, further tracked down the other two suspects and also found them in Alexandra.
“All three suspects have since been arrested and the stolen car and valuables have been recovered by the police,” he confirmed.
Maphakela said the three suspects were charged with car hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods and the police were still searching for the firearm(s) used in the crime.
It was further discovered that one of the suspects was out on parole after he was convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2005.
“All three will appear at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 23 May to face their charges.”
The case continues.
