Old Eds Society appoints a new club administrator

HOUGHTON - A wealth of experience comes to the Old Edwardian Society

Celia Niederhoffer, the new administrator of the Old Edwardian Society in Houghton, brings a wealth of experience to the position gained in the sales, services and banking industry, as well as having administered sports associations.

After finishing school at Commercial High School in Johannesburg, Niederhoffer briefly tested the banking industry before working for Old Mutual in Cape Town and becoming qualified as an estate agent.

She has worked in Port Elizabeth, East London as well as Cape Town. In Cape Town, she worked for Nedbank and Old Mutual, and from 1988 to 1993 was secretary of the Insurance Institute of the Cape of Good Hope.

It was in Port Elizabeth that Niederhoffer started to play bowls and took to the game, easily winning club titles as a novice, and pairs and trips competitions. But her crowning glory was reaching the Western Province semifinals of the trips.

Her love of bowls soon saw her becoming more involved with the administration of the game and was appointed secretary at Western Province Bowls Association.

Upon her move back to Johannesburg in 2013, she took up a similar position with Johannesburg Bowls Association and joined the Old Edwardian Society bowls section.

“The position of club administration is something new and fresh for me,” she said.

“Having had multi-faceted experience in sales and administration, the appeal was strong and it means a lot to me to be able to represent a society with such a rich history,” she said.

Niederhoffer has a son who is in the construction business in Cape Town and a daughter who is a maths teacher at Roedean School. She is also the proud grandmother of four girls.
