Mohammed’s family distressed by yet another court postponement

JOBURG – The case has been postponed more than five times this year, even though the suspects were convicted in 2015.

The case of Robert Nembaka and Rotshidzwa Netshiavha, who were convicted in November for stealing Nazeer Mohammed‘s cellphone, as well as a Toyota Corolla and an Opel Astra registered to Mohammed’s car dealership, has been postponed to 30 May.

This comes after Nembaka organised for a new lawyer to represent him, and the new council has asked for more time to get up to speed with the case.

Mohammed’s sister Zaheera Mohammed said they were extremely disappointed in the way the case had been handled by the court.

The case has been postponed more than five times this year, even though the suspects were convicted in 2015.

A disappointed Zaheera said there were many occasions when her brother’s case was postponed due to the hearing of other cases, bail hearings or the overbooking of cases to be heard on the day.

“I don’t understand why he is getting another lawyer when he is convicted? Maybe it’s delaying tactics,” said Zaheera.

Mohammed, a Johannesburg businessman who has been missing for four years, was last seen at his car dealership on Jules Street in Jeppestown on 7 December 2012.
