Road issues still a problem in Fairwood

FAIRWOOD – Residents are frustrated with road issues along Grove Road.

Local residents are looking for answers regarding an unresolved road issue along Grove Road in Fairwood.

The issue arose after Joburg Water allegedly fixed a burst pipe along the road, but failed to patch up the parts of the road which were dug up, resulting in erosion and the formation of potholes.

Ward 72 councillor, Steven Kruger, reported the issue and said Joburg Water had filled the parts of the road with sand and now the onus was on Johannesburg Roads Agency to patch it up.

“It seems that this has not been done and has resulted in the road being eroded and tar coming off, causing a frustration for motorists using the road,” Kruger said. He questioned when the entity intended to look into the matter and resolve it.

Ward 73 councillor, Mia Snyman, said that this was a common problem in the ward. She confirmed that the issue had been brought to her attention earlier in the year but, to date, there had been no response or attempt to resolve it.

“The problem is the lack of communication between the entities and it’s often up to the residents and ward councillors to call them and follow up on the issue, and this is a problem,” Snyman added.

At the time of publication, both entities had failed to respond to questions sent to them.
