Another petrol price spike

JOBURG - Motorists to pay more when filling up their vehicles.

It’s another blow for motorists when, from 4 May, they will pay 12 cents more to fill up their vehicles.

The energy department announced that the price of petrol will increase by 12 cents for both 93 and 95 octane.

There will be relief for diesel users as the department announced that the price of diesel will go down by between one and two cents. Paraffin users will also receive some respite as the price will decrease by 9 cents.

The petrol price increase came as no surprise because the Automobile Association (AA) had already predicted that the price of petrol could go up.

Commenting on the unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund, AA announced that the steady appreciation in international petroleum prices during April had brushed aside gains in the rand/US dollar exchange rate, setting the stage for more fuel price hikes this month.
