A new look for Lunch Bar

JOHANNESBURG – Lunch Bar may have redesigned their wrapper, but they’re also giving commuters the chance to win big – and save the environment!

Alongside the launch of Lunch Bar’s new look and man-size chocolates, the brand also launched the Hungry Hustler Taxi Rank Campaign, where one lucky local taxi rank will stand the chance to win an incredible R100 000 makeover, while a lucky taxi commuter will have the opportunity to win the Hungry Hustler prize worth R200 000.

City Buzz attended the launch of the campaign, which took place at 27 Boxes in Melville, and saw guests taxied to the Metro taxi rank on the corner of Sauer and Bree streets in Newtown, one of the four taxi ranks involved in the campaign.

Promoters can be found at the taxi ranks in Alex, Randburg, Bara and Bree.

Commuters are encouraged to buy Lunch Bar chocolates and give their wrappers to promoters in exchange for a sticker which will be placed on a loyalty card. Once you’ve collected nine stickers, which means chomping down on nine chocolate bars, you can claim an instant prize of an ‘Oviaas’ cap, a pair of earphones or sunglasses, a small inflatable football or an umbrella. Your loyalty card is then entered into the Hungry Hustler grand prize giveaway – which consists of a car, cellphone, laptop and more!

On the activation day, local comedian and hip-hop star Tol A$$ Mo visited the Bree taxi rank to get locals excited about the competition and, golly, does he make a grand salesman!

People were lining up around the block to hand over their wrappers and some savvy street entrepreneurs saw the chance to earn a little extra money by selling Lunch Bars to those waiting in line.

So what happens to all those wrappers? Lunch Bar has partnered with young entrepreneurs who will showcase their talents through the use of collected Lunch Bar wrappers. Artist John Vusi Mfupi is one such person. He uses recycled paper to create collages and will create a special piece using the Cadbury Lunch Bar wrappers. Another talent onboard is Thamba Tabvuma, who owns Republic of Recycle, and makes bags, wallets and shoes out of recycled material. He will use the wrappers to produce recycled give-back items to the participating taxi ranks, thanking them for their involvement in the campaign, and then will use the balance of the wrappers to make goods to sell in his shop.
