JOHANNESBURG – Find your way around the city with street art

Street art in the city is beautiful and plentiful, and knowing where it is may just help you find your way around.

City Buzz is committed to assisting you to find your way around the beautiful City of Gold by helping you recognise the street art in the area.

Even touring the city as an experienced city slicker can sometimes leave you feeling a little lost and out of your comfort zone.

Stumbling into an area with dilapidated buildings and down-trodden people – and area that presents a stark contrast to the improvement districts we love such as Braamfontein and Maboneng – is something sure to unsettle new explorers, but if you can recognise the art and identify the area then you’ll soon be on your way.

This public art can be found near a new mall in the city.

It is also in close proximity to an exciting and historically significant daily market that was recently revamped and brought back to life. You will probably see it if you’re attending a concert in the city as this arty masterpiece can be found near a popular concert and festival venue.

If you guessed this art is situated at the corner of Miriam Makeba and Gwigwi Mrwebi streets, then you’d be correct.

It can be found within walking distance of Newtown Junction, which happens to be the mall in which New Town Work Shop and Potato Sheds are situated.

There are a number of restaurants in the mall should you feel for a meal on your journey through the city.

Not more than two streets from this public art, you can visit a place of rich history, The Market Theatre.

A number of stage productions are performed daily at this theatre which was established in 1976, and can be described as the home of local theatre.

There’s no need to fear the city any longer because City Buzz has you covered.
