Hard work paves way for top achiever

CRAIGHALL – Creativity is his first love and passion.

Not only did this Craighall creative graduate with a distinction but he also came out tops in his class and the country.

Lutho Mtyamde (26), who is a AAA School of Advertising graduate, has won this year’s AON Top Overall Student Award, as well as the award for Best Graphic Design student and Top Creative student when he graduated for his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Brand Communication with specialisation in graphic design.

AON, the award sponsor, is a provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage, human capital and management consulting and specialty insurance underwriting.

Mtyamde shared that his undying love for art is what led him to study the course that he studied. “I didn’t just want to study anywhere, I wanted to study with the best. My research showed me that AAA was the birthplace of brilliance.”

His credit for this outstanding achievement is always going the extra mile. “I put a lot of effort in all my assignments and went beyond what was required,” said Mtyamde.

His passion and love for what he does has earned him a traineeship at the Sandton-based advertising agency, FCB Africa. Last year, he completed his one-month internship at the company and said he was overwhelmed when he was offered a year-long traineeship at the company. “My introduction to agency life taught me to adapt quickly. It’s a very fast-paced industry but I’m glad I came prepared because of the good training I received from AAA.”

Professor Krishna Govender, newly-appointed academic head of AAA School of Advertising said, “Top achievers like Lutho are not only ambassadors for the school, but are evidence of the quality we add to the industry. He’s a shining example of our graduates who will soon be leaving their mark on the next generation of world-class advertising campaigns.”

As part of the prize he won, Mtyamde will have an opportunity to visit any advertising agency in the world for one month. “At the moment, I’m stuck between choosing New York, Paris or Japan.” He shared that his choice was purely based on his belief that this is where the best advertising agencies were at the moment.
