Tips to help keep you and your car safe

PARKVIEW - Police warn residents to be vigilant when it comes to theft out of motor vehicles and hijackings.

Parkview police recently shared theft and hijacking prevention tips to help community members avoid becoming a victim of these crimes.

Community members were advised to not leave their cars unlocked at any time and reminded not to park their cars on the streets, especially at night. Parking on the street and sitting in the car is also not advisable as this could make you an easy target as well.

Leaving a car door open or your car idling while opening the gate at your house could make you a victim of crime.

Police encouraged motorists that if they feel they are being followed, they must drive past their house rather and head towards the nearest police station. The next step would be to alert the police if you have noticed suspicious people walking up and down your streets.

Parkview police also advised community members to install alarms and mobilisers in their vehicles and to report faulty streetlights to City Power, to avoid being in darkness.

Should your car be stolen or hijacked, report it immediately so police can react swiftly and apprehend the suspects.
