Meet IIG’s councillor of the year

ROSEBANK – Insurance Institute of Gauteng announces councillor of the year at their inaugural dinner.

The Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) past president Zuriel Naiker announced Rosebank resident Olivia Smith of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Africa as Councillor of the Year at their inaugural dinner.

Olivia heads up the IIG marketing portfolio and focuses on protecting and enhancing the image and reputation of the organisation by marketing and communicating IIG’s purpose through events, as well as trade and digital media.

She has also been hands-on in taking the Gauteng body to a global platform through IIG International, which enabled insurance professionals to network and gain experience from experts at multinational insurers such as Allianz in London and Munich in September last year.

“I am very grateful to make a difference in the industry through the Institute’s Council and would like to thank AGCS Africa CEO Delphine Maïdou and AGCS Africa head of engineering Seelan Naidoo, along with Marsh Africa managing director Winston Skosana for their support and encouragement since 2013,” said Olivia who is celebrating 15 years of service with Allianz in April this year.

“I would like to equally thank Zuriel Naiker and the rest of the council for the value they place in the role that marketing and communications play in creating awareness about the purpose, role and activities of the IIG for its members, the media and the rest of the industry,” she said.

Olivia is also highly involved in her community as a singer in her local church. In fact, she released her first single, What a beautiful life, through iTunes a while ago. The song is inspired by the South African sunlight and hope for a new day.

IIG provides networking platforms for employees of insurers and brokers operating in South Africa’s biggest economic province, Gauteng. One of their key platforms – The IIG annual dinner – is Africa’s largest insurance networking event.

Based in Johannesburg, AGCS works with brokers, risk managers and other stakeholders on the continent to offer them insurance and risk consultancy across the whole spectrum of specialty, alternative risk transfer and corporate business including marine, energy, engineering, financial lines, liability, mid-corporate and property insurance (including international insurance programs).
