Rosebank police remind children to be safe this Easter

ROSEBANK - Pupils of Vuleka Primary School receive a sweet treat and a safety lesson from Rosebank police officers

Children’s faces lit up with joy at Vuleka Primary School, as Rosebank Police Station’s communications officer, Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, visited the school as part of the police station’s Easter drive.

During the initiative, which has been running for the past six years, police officers hand out Easter eggs to pupils in and around Rosebank. “This is done to create a relationship of trust between the children and the police. They should know that if there is a police officer out there, there could be a problem but there also could be something good, like today was,” explained Mdletshe.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette accompanied Mdletshe as he handed over boxes of Easter eggs to pupils, but not before he gave them a brief talk about being safe over the Easter holidays.

“Remember never to get into a stranger’s car and don’t take what is not yours. Listen to your parents and if they tell you to stay at home, do not go to someone’s house because you might not be seen again,” he warned.

Mdletshe then emphasised the importance of making good choices from a young age as it is the choices that they make now that will ultimately determine their future.

Deputy head of the school, Claire Shepherd, thanked Mdeltshe and the Rosebank Police Station for donating Easter eggs to the pupils. “Sergeant Bongi came and spoke to our children regarding the upcoming holidays and the need to stay safe when out and about, at home or away. He reminded our children about stranger danger and how they need to listen to their parents at all times,” said Shepherd.
