Three cars stolen at Norwood Police Barracks

NORWOOD - Residents of Norwood Police Barracks had three cars stolen from the premises, prompting them to fear for their lives.

After three cars were stolen at the Norwood Police Barracks on 8 March, residents say they fear for their lives.

According to Venita Masisi, their lives are at risk living in the blocks as there are no security guards or electricity in the passages.

“Our lights are off at night and the passages are very dark, we are scared that if criminals can come here and take three cars in one night, something bigger will happen next,” she said.

“Our husbands are police officers and they are the ones that catch criminals – tomorrow they will be targeted.”

The disgruntled residents say they have been complaining for years about the building, but to no avail.

According to the people living there, the criminals target Toyotas, as they took two Tazzes and one Corolla and one Tazz was stripped.

Selina Matabane said her car has been stripped three times now and she has reported the issue numerous times to the Norwood Police Station but nothing has been done.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Nurse Senyane, confirmed that there were cases opened regarding the incidents and more information will follow as the matter is still under investigation.

The building is zoned as married quarters, which means that the police are allowed to live with their spouses and children in the flats.
