Swayile was walking back home after visiting a friend in Orchards when she was hit by a vehicle outside 37 Garden Road and was left bleeding and unconscious on the road.
A security guard, who had been standing close by, witnessed the incident and attempted to run after the car, but was not fast enough.
Cohen’s mother, Ann, is 90 years old and suffers from ill health. “My mom of 90, who suffers with ill health, has also been severely traumatised by this incident,” said Cohen.
“Nontobeko has never, ever been in hospital and, as a result of the accident, she will go home with two pins in her leg. She has shown my mom huge loyalty and kindness,” said Cohen.
Cohen said she is shocked that the driver of the vehicle did not bother to stop. “I am asking for help with information to track the perpetrator. A careless hit-and-run driver with no responsibility or conscience has hurt many lives enormously and has devastating consequences. Own up!” exclaimed Cohen.
