Security guard shot dead in Berea

BEREA – A security guard who was driving home from his shift was shot dead on the corner of O'Reilly and Lilly roads in Berea.

On the morning of 7 March at around 6am, two security guards from Mathapuza Security Services had knocked off from their shift and were travelling along O’Reilly Road when an unknown man approached the vehicle and fired three shots at the driver.

Spokesperson of Hillbrow Police Station Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said, “One man has been shot three times and died immediately.” According to Zondo, the shots that were fired were only aimed at the driver of the vehicle. He added, “The colleague who was sitting in the passenger seat had not been fired at nor was he injured.”

The driver of a security vehicle was shot dead after a suspect fired three shots at him in Berea.

Zondo said the motive for the shooting is still unclear. “We are investigating the matter further, nothing was taken. The suspect is still on the run.”
