Another motorist falls victim to theft in Hyde Park

HYDE PARK – Following an initial report of theft on the Sandton Chronicle website on 1 March where a resident expressed concern over the lack of action taken to curb theft in Hyde Park, criminals have once again struck in the area.

In the latest theft out of a motor vehicle, a motorist’s cellphone was stolen while in traffic on William Nicol Drive near Hyde Park Corner.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, the victim was approached by the suspect while stopped in traffic.

“The complainant alleges that the suspect smashed his front passenger window and proceeded to grab his cellphone, which was lying on the front seat,” he said.

Maphakela confirmed that the police are still looking for the suspect and urge residents to remain vigilant when in traffic. He also urged motorists not to give beggars money, as this encouraged them to remain.

The case continues.
