Socialising at Parktown Girls’

PARKTOWN – The young lassies at Parktown Girls' High School aren’t all about academics and sports, just as they proved through their volunteering and socialising efforts made throughout February.

Firstly, the group of Community Service pupils at the school organised a delicious tea and an afternoon of entertainment for the residents of the Rose Village retirement home in Roosevelt Park.

“Our girls also made little tokens of love and appreciation for the residents,” said spokesperson for the school, Kerry Liss, of the pupils’ heart-warming gestures.

Next up, was one of the top events on the school’s social calendar, the #StreetInvasion16 party, hosted by the school’s Parents’ Association (PA). The highlight of the evening was when the well-known local rapper, AKA, stepped onto the stage. He later tweeted saying: “Thank you for an awesome show at Parktown Girls. I don’t get to do stuff like this often, the love is amazing.”

“The PA hosted the biggest social Parktown has ever seen,” Liss continued.

“Tickets were sold out. Under 18s from Parktown, and all over Johannesburg, partied the night away on the drive under a diamond-studded night sky.”

Parents, guardians and volunteers added to the success by keeping valuables safe, food served at the tuckshop and the traffic moving. The Grade 11 Social Committee worked hard before the event and on the night.

“VIPs received goodie bags with items from Smashbox, Sorbet, Lovisa, Converse… Elle and much more,” said Liss.

“The PA thanks the school, UParty, the Grade 11 Committee and all the parents who contributed to this amazing success. Keep an eye out for photos of the Street Invasion event on the UParty Facebook Page.”
