Hillbrow man in custody for Bryanston house robbery

JOBURG - The Alexandra Magistrates Court remanded in custody, a 35 year old Hillbrow man pending further investigation in an alleged case of house robbery committed with two accomplices at a Bryanston couple's home in September last year.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court remanded a 35-year-old Hillbrow man in custody pending further investigation into a house robbery in Bryanston in September last year with two accomplices.

The accused, who claims to be a taxi driver, was identified through his fingerprints.

The court heard that at about 7.30pm on the day, the victims, a couple who were in their lounge at the time of the incident, saw the three men sprint towards them after jumping over the property wall.

One man wielded a knife and another held a firearm. The men were alleged to have told the victims to remain calm and demanded wrist watches, cash, wallets, asked for their business cards and the location of the safe and bedrooms. The suspects forced the couple into a bedroom, forced them to lie down and tied their hands and legs with rope.

The three took jewellery from the safe, wrist watches, an iPad, two laptops, eight bottles of perfume, an iPhone, R400 in cash and bottles of whisky and beer. They did not find the vehicle keys.

They then fled the scene in a vehicle suspected to have been waiting for them outside the victims’ yard.

The couple untied themselves and reported the incident to the police.

The suspect will reappear in court after further investigation is concluded. The suspect’s accomplices are still at large.
