Spreading love the Proudly South African way

ROSEBANK- Motorists were reminded to spread the love on Oxford and Glenhove Road on 12 February.

South African flags and brightly-coloured roses brought smiles to motorists’ faces on Oxford and Glenhove roads on the morning of 12 February.

Commuters were reminded to spread the love on Valentine’s Day and during the month of love by Proudly South African, an organisation which seeks to influence local procurement in public and private sectors and increase local production, influence consumers to buy local and stimulate job creation.

The Proudly South African team were on the road from as early as 6am to hand out roses with the help of celebrities such as Proverb, Somizi Mhlongo and Miss South Africa 2015, Liesl Laurie, and others who wanted to spread the love.

“The month of February is known as the month of love. We must demonstrate love for one another, South Africans need to be reminded to love and demonstrate love for one another despite hard times. This is our fourth year doing this and it is just a reminder to love,” said Leslie Sedibe, chief executive officer of Proudly South African.

Passionate about spreading the love, Laurie explained the importance of having a morning to hand out roses and South African flags is to remind South Africans about uBuntu. “Often people forget to show their love each day for one another and this is just a friendly reminder, and perhaps this starts a ripple effect. It would be so great to see someone who received a rose in the traffic take it to the office and maybe pass it on to someone who may need it or to someone that they love.”

The team stood in peak hour traffic until 9am spreading the joy of love and happiness and promoting uBuntu.

Mhlongo, a judge from Idols SA, explained that his reason for joining in and spreading love was to show the true reflection of his country, South Africa, and the loving people in it.

“Celebrating love should be an everyday thing, love is not only for people in relationships, it’s for everyone – it’s loving your family, friends and the people all around you, it is also loving yourself.”

Agreeing with him was ProVerb, who commented that he would give his time anytime for goodwill and spreading love in the country.
