Reading in the nude

JOBURG - It's no secret that POPArt is at the forefront of independent cinema and now it's pushing the limits – more so than ever before.

The lovers and organisers of art and theatre at POPArt will bare it all from 11 to 14 February in their brand new reading platform, Naked Girls Reading: Live Nudity Literary Salon, at the theatre in Maboneng.

“In case you were wondering, this is quite literally, exactly what it says,” said writer, stand-up comedian and producer, Paul Rowlston.

“It is naked girls reading. And, while I am still processing, that may well be quite profoundly brilliant. It certainly was funny, moving, emotional and deeply, achingly entertaining. And yes, the four wonderful performers on the stage are naked. And yes, they are reading and yes, it is that simple and no, it is not.

“So, here’s the thing. It turns out that having four performers literally bare themselves in service of their art is a pretty stunning way to make you pay them very close and very serious attention from the very first word spoken. It makes you engage, pay attention, notice every move and moment and murmur. It is, frankly, a damn dirty trick. And it is amazing and delightful and singular and stunning and unmissable.”

The organisers have adapted the idea from the (surprisingly) well-known concept that is prevalent around the world.

During each reading, the panel of beautiful ladies will indeed be completely nude, but you, as an audience member, will remain fully clothed.

Tickets are R120.
