Parkview Golf Club to host guided bird walk

PARKVIEW- Parkview Gold Club is ready for 2016 with some exciting events lined up.

The Parkview Golf Club has a few exciting events planned for this year with the first being a guided bird walk at the club on 18 February at 6am.

“The club runs a book of bird sightings by members [who fill it in] during their golf,” said club director, Jerry Fraser.

“It’s an exhaustive list which includes many species you would not expect to see very often in a busy suburban area.”

If you are a tad unsure about the difference between a Boerbul, a bulbul and … well, just a bull, you will be better informed soon.

Make your appearance at some of the club’s forthcoming centenary functions and you’ll discover, perhaps even see, the dog known as the South African Mastiff, songbirds familiar as bulbuls, and the heavenly constellation called Taurus, the Bull.

Among the special events, the club, located on Emmarentia Avenue, is also planning a dog show, more bird walks and a stargazing evening on the fairways in celebration of its 100th birthday.

This is all besides the traditional golf events, the special holiday golf competitions and two official provincial tournaments which are also on the events calendar.

Booking is essential. There is no fee to take part in the bird walk.
