First day of school at Sacred Heart College

JOBURG - They say change is as good as a holiday and pupils of Sacred Heart College enjoyed the change of their classroom and a new teacher on their first day of school.

On 14 January, the school opened its gates to pupils from pre-primary all the way up to Grade 12.

This year, Sacred Heart College has three full classrooms of Grade 1 pupils with 25 pupils in each class. When the North Eastern Tribune visited the school on the first day, most of the classrooms were filled with cheerful and eager pupils.

The school has a new system where Grade 7 pupils are moved over to the high school once they reach Grade 7. This is a daunting time for them as they are now moving into a new phase.

The head of Sacred Heart College, Colin Northmore, is optimistic for the school year ahead. Northmore said, “I think this year more than any other year, schools need to learn to be more flexible and adapt. We need to learn to do modern teaching for our modern children.

“By simply feeling the energy from this morning, this is going to be a great year.”
