Dabulamanzi hosts youth camp

EMMARENTIA- Youth were encourage to take charge of their lives at the ADreach and First Rand Group Youth Development Camp.

ADreach and the First Rand Group hosted a Youth Development Camp at the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club at Emmarentia Dam.

The aim of the camp was to empower young people through sports development, in particular, canoeing. It was also to promote better life skills through the teaching of healthy living and self-awareness.

The camp was officially opened by Sfiso Mthembu, group executive for human resources and sustainability at First Rand Group. He encouraged the attendees to make the most of the opportunity and never to let their circumstances dictate their future. Mthembu further invited the youth attending the camp to visit the First Rand Group should they wish to discuss their futures and possible career opportunities.

The camp included presentations from several guest speakers on personal development, sexual self-awareness and sports psychology. Physical exercise was also an important element and the youth took part in canoeing courses, paddle races, team-building exercises and morning runs.

Many of the attendees were from the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club – an ADreach social development initiative that aims to uplift communities through the power of sport.
