Local head girl obtains 10 distinctions

OAKLANDS – After taking on the role of head girl and juggling academics, sports and a social life, 18-year-old local resident Samhaa Seedat managed to achieve a staggering 10 distinctions in her final matric exams last year.

The successful Seedat began her academic career at Roedean Junior School before moving on to high school at St Andrew’s School for Girls.

Seedat not only excelled in English and Afrikaans, but also maths, life orientation, science, biology, accounting and geography, and to top it all off, advanced maths and English.

“If someone had told me in junior school that I would receive 10 distinctions in matric, I wouldn’t have believed them,” she joked.

Seedat stated that for her it was not so much hard work that helped her accomplish this mammoth feat, but moreover consistent effort throughout the year.

Her parents, Moosa and Zaheera, beamed with pride when talking about Samhaa, who is the eldest of their three daughters.

“It hasn’t only been the two of us who tried to be her support structure,” said Moosa.

“It’s been our extended family as well. She has truly made us very proud, it was an exceptional achievement.”

Moosa also expressed gratitude to her high school for their constant backing of his daughter. “They were amazing,” he said.

There seems to be no stopping this academic and she has already applied to study medicine at Wits University.

But it’s not just books, studies and distinctions for Seedat, for these come second to her greatest love which is Liverpool Football Club.

“I never miss a game,” Seedat said playfully, and said she hopes that one day she might just be able to go see her heroes live and in action at Enfield Stadium.
