Top five New Year’s Eve cocktails

JOBURG – No New Year’s celebration is complete without a cocktail, and so the Fourways Review team together with Thirst Bar Services, South Africa’s number one choice for mobile bar solutions, and compiled a list of the top five drinks to make your evening a little more special … and don’t worry, the men can also drink them!

Ingredients: 25ml gin, 25ml Aperol and 25ml Martini Rosso

How to:

Fill a Boston shaker glass three-quarters full with ice, add all ingredients to ice and stir for about 30 – 40 seconds, strain into a tumbler with cubed ice and garnish with an orange slice.

Ingredients: 37,5ml Absolut Citron, three fresh raspberries, five mint leaves, 25ml fresh lime juice, 20ml sugar syrup and 100ml sparkling wine.

Fill Boston shaker three-quarters full with ice, add Citron, lime juice and syrup and shake for at least 15 seconds (until the shaker develops frost), strain ingredients into champagne glass and top with sparkling wine, garnish with a mint leaf and fresh raspberry.

Ingredients: 40ml gin, 10ml caperitif, 75ml fresh naartjie juice and grapefruit juice (equal parts of both) four or five basil leaves, 12.5ml sugar syrup and two drops of Angostura Bitters

How to:

Add all ingredients into Boston shaker, fill shaker three-quarters with ice and shake until the tin frosts, strain into a highball glass filled with ice and garnish with a basil leaf.

Ingredients: 25ml La Meurte Mezcal, 25ml Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila, 25ml fresh lime juice and 15ml agave syrup

How to:

Add all ingredients into Boston shaker, fill shaker three-quarters with ice and shake until the tin frosts, strain into tumbler filled with ice, garnish with a lime wedge.

Ingredients: 37,5ml tequila, 12,5ml triple sec (or Cointreau if you have the money), 25ml fresh lime juice, 20ml sugar syrup and 100ml beer and salt (optional).

How to:

If desired, coat the rim of a highball glass with salt, fill with ice and set aside, add the tequila, triple sec (or Cointreau) and lime juice to a shaker and fill with fresh ice, shake, and strain into the prepared glass and top with the beer. Garnish with a lime wheel.
