Truck loses control on M1 highway
JOBURG - A truck travelling north along the M1 highway lost control and landed on the opposite side on the M1 south near Riviera.
UPDATE: 10 December 2015, 3:30pm –Motorists have been advised to find an alternate route following the truck crash on the M1 Highway. The highway has been closed so emergency workers are able to remove the wreckage from the highway.
INITIAL REPORT: 10 December 2015, 2:30pm – When the truck landed on the southbound side of the highway it hit a taxi full of passengers and crushed a bakkie, killing one person.
Emergency services are at the scene. Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med, Braam Kruger said, “One person has tragically been killed in the accident.”
There are 24 patients on the scene and one is in a critical condition. Paramedics are treating the patients on-scene and will transport them to nearby hospitals.
Traffic going in both directions is at a gridlock.
