A ball of a time

SANDRINGHAM - Sandringham Gardens hosted its annual ball for their elderly residents with music that got them up and dancing all night long.

The theme of the evening was Casino Royale, which inspired the dressing up of many of the residents. The hall was decorated beyond recognition and entertainment co-ordinator Cynthia Ambrose said, “A lot of hard work has gone into getting this event together. All the elderly look forward to this event.

“This facility has been taking care of the needs of older persons for close to 100 years. It is home to over 500 elderly people, approximately 300 of whom are in need of long-term, intensive medical and nursing care.”

Rehabilitation manager at the facility, Buhle Buthelezi said, “This is a day to honour our residents and make them feel special.”

Entertainment was provided by the band, The Time Bandits.

Joy was written all over the residents’ faces as they danced to old numbers by Elvis Presley and Charlie Chaplin in between enjoying a three-course meal.

Harry Israel, who is a resident of Sandringham Gardens thanked the general manager Esme van der Walt and her staff members for all their hard work. Israel said, “Esme and her staff worked tirelessly to create this lovely, decorated dining room.”

Van der Walt thanked all the residents and staff for playing their part in making the night an unforgettable one. “Today is your day, thank you residents and the staff for being part of us and for your assistance,” she said.

The Sandringham Gardens Hospital, which forms part of the Chevrah’s Community Medical Centre, has a full complement of nursing staff, general practitioners and access to consulting specialists.
