Children in need of basketball shoes

ALEXANDRA - Sifiso Twala, founder of a non profit organisation called Hoop to a Better Life, an organisation providing youth development and life skills programmes, will be hosting a drive for shoes for its basketball programme.

Alexandra’s Sifiso Twala, founder of non-profit organisation Hoop to a Better Life, an organisation providing youth development and life skills programmes, will host a drive for shoes for the organisation’s basketball programme.

Twala said his organisation aims to instil leadership, teamwork, determination and competitiveness in those participating in the programme through basketball.

“We are currently not funded and we run all our projects from donations and also personal funding. After the development clinic held in October, we experienced growth in children joining the programme (basketball) which has in turn put pressure on the resources we currently have,” said Twala.

“As a a result, we are trying to raise funds towards getting more resources such as basketballs, kits and other equipment necessary for the programme.”

The Sole2Sole Shoes Drive fundraising event will be held on 12 December at No 3 Square Grounds, Alexandra. The event will start at 7.30am and will end at 10.30am. Dubbed the ‘Get Fit for a Good Purpose’ event, the fundraising initiative will feature fitness exercises for attendees such as aerobics, zumba and boxing and those who purchase participation tickets for R120 will receive a free water bottle.

Twala said most children play on harsh outdoor surfaces barefoot and the organisation would really appreciate shoe donations to allow these children to play comfortably.
