WATCH: For a limited time only

JOBURG - A NOT-TO-BE-MISSED limited time only art exhibition at Working Artists Studio is what you get when you team up an artist, a photographer and a famous actor – and boy, is it something to see!

Yiull Damaso, owner of Working Artists Studio and artist, hosted the Studio Collab Exhibition at his gallery and studio in association with photographer, Sean Brand, as well as 7de Laan actor and functional artist, Heino Schmitt.

The three gentlemen united at the modest studio in Craighall Park to create an interesting, everything and anything, exhibition.

“The entire exhibition is just a collection of works from individuals. The point of the exhibition is to come in and perhaps see something you like and know that there are things people are doing out there that can make you question what you’re seeing,” explained Damaso.

Questioning what you see, seems to be a central theme at the theme-less exhibition, especially when considering the artwork by Damason, which is made from a destroyed Ducatti motorbike and fashioned to look like Iron Man’s chest plate.

Or, the intriguing photographs by Brand that turn a beautiful landscape into a world made up of colours of a higher frequency than visible light, or the functional art of Schmitt, that will have you questioning whether you’re looking at beautiful wooden art or a piece of household furniture.

Schmitt explained that he always had a love for making furniture for himself and his friends and it was time to put his passion on display. “If you go to Europe, you’ll see that they live in more confined spaces than we do, so I started looking at art in a different way,” Schmitt explained.

“If you live in a small space, you can’t have a sculpture and a lamp – it doesn’t make sense. So what I wanted to do was combine art and household furniture and create functional art,” said Schmitt.

The pieces, by each artist, show their individual styles and interests and make for an ocularly stimulating collaboration.

The exhibition can only be viewed for one more weekend from 27 to 29 November so don’t miss out on this sensory explosion.
