Barbie empowers women through bracelet campaign

JOBURG - RENOWNED international brand, Barbie, recently partnered with Blue Horizon to launch an initiative aimed at empowering women.

The initiative saw the recent launch of a clothing range at selected department stores across the country and with every purchase of clothing, customers will receive a free bracelet handmade by women from Rays of Hope and Thembalethu.

Chantelle Fritz, marketing co-ordinator of Blue Horizon, explained the purpose of putting together an initiative of this nature.

“Through this bracelet initiative, we hope to empower and uplift women by training them to develop a new skill, thereby giving them the chance to earn an income,” said Fritz.

She added that the bracelet initiative was also a way to remind women what the brand represents namely, inspiration, imagination and possibility.

Furthermore, by supporting these two organisations, the Mattel brand gives women hope for a better future.

Both Rays of Hope, based in Hurlingham, and Thembalethu are non-profit organisations and employ women from rural communities, with the aim of creating economic change through income generation and skills development initiatives.

Both organisations managed to create 15 000 bracelets collectively over a two-month period for the initiative.

The new Barbie clothing range has launched in selected Edgars stores nationwide. Blue Horizon Licensing is the exclusive representative of Barbie and all Mattel consumer products in South Africa.
