VIDEO: Police and Sanca partner to help curb drugs abuse

SANDRINGHAM - The Sandrigham Police in partnership with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) visited Primary School as part of the 16 days of Activism against Women and children.

The Sandringham police, in partnership with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), visited Fairsand Primary School as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Woman and Child Abuse.

Olwethu Tshongwe of Sanca said the visit was to help school pupils realise how dangerous drugs can be for their future and to make the children aware of alternative activities that could keep them off the streets and away from drugs. “We decided to visit schools because that is where we can make a huge impact with these initiatives. We want to change the mindset of the pupils by hosting such events,” said Tshongwe.

The 16 Days of Activism is a world-wide campaign to oppose violence against women and children. The 16 Days runs from 25 November to 10 December every year.

Lieutanant Ramonkung Thobejane of Sandringham police said they are visiting all schools around the area to help educate school pupils about drug abuse. The pupils received talks on how to avoid drugs and bad substances and were given beachballs to use over the holidays to play with. Zeno Productions provided the beachballs, entertainment and gave away presents to the young pupils.

The principal of Fairsand Primary, Rinel Sing, was pleased with the school’s children being exposed to the harmful effects of substance abuse and thanked the Sandringham police and all organisations that made the event possible.
