Warning: High accident zone

HIGHLANDS NORTH - After witnessing two accidents over two days, Highlands North resident Sue Van Es recently raised concerns regarding the intersection of Meyer and 11th Avenue.

“Can something be done about this, or are we all waiting for a fatality to happen,” said Van Es.

According to Van Es, who lives on the corner, there are road markings, however, drivers ignore them speed right over the markings, causing accidents.

Ward 74 councillor Jack Cooper told North Eastern Tribune that he has spoken to the necessary personnel to investigate the excessive speeding and numerous accidents on this corner.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson of the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), told the North Eastern Tribune that the reported accidents along these roads have already raised concern at the JRA Regional Depot.

“We will inspect the area to determine whether all the road markings and signs are visible and, where necessary, ensure the required remedial work is undertaken,” said Peters-Scheepers.

Peters-Scheepers encouraged the community to consult with Metro police for traffic law enforcement initiatives if vehicle accidents continue to increase and are solely related to driver behaviour.
