Wines made from organically-grown grapes

JOBURG – A event was recently held at Nedbank in Sandton to celebrate wine producers who use organically-grown grapes.

This follows the Nedbank Green Wine Awards which started in 2009. The wines that won at this year’s awards were showcased at the wine-tasting event at Nedbank’s head office in Sandton for guests to enjoy.

The main idea of the Nedbank Green Wine Awards has been to reward and elevate the quality of wines, honouring wine producers that put the well-being of people and the well-being of the planet first.

“We wanted to partner with winemakers who are committed to green because Nedbank is committed to a sustainable future,” said Nkosinathi Msiza, senior communication manager of Nedbank.

At the awards, a total of 150 wines were judged across two categories including best wines made from organically-grown grapes and best wines from integrated production of wine (IPW). IPW producers comply with international wine industry environmental sustainability criteria, which include the Global Wine Sector Environmental Sustainability Principles which were published by the International Federation of Wine and Spirits.

The judging panel was led by internationally-renowned wine judge, Fiona McDonald.

More wine enthusiasts will be able to sample the winning wines in Johannesburg and Cape Town throughout November.
