JOBURG - The municipal by elections for a new councilor for Ward 73 will be taking place on 11 November and three candidates will battle it out.

The municipal by elections for a new councilor for Ward 73 will be taking place on 11 November and three candidates will battle it out.

The elections will be conducted by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and will take place in four different voting stations which are the Killarney Country Club, Paterson Park Bowling Club (opposite Norwood Police Station), Houghton Primary School and Norwood Primary School.

The three candidates which will be battling it out are Mia Synman of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Philani Mbatha of the African National Congress (ANC) and Sidney Anolik of the Congress of the People (COPE).

The elections follow the recent resignation of 73 Ward councillor, Marcell Ravid. The voting stations will be open from 7am until 9pm.

Stanley Letsoalo of the Community Police Forum said the announcement of the winner is going to depend on the number of people that came to vote.

“Depending on the turnout of the community, the winner can be announced on the same day if there are not a lot of voters, but if the turnout is good the winner will be announced the following day,” said Letsoalo.
