The Bunny Hop Haven in your area

SANDRINGHAM- Did you know that a Froggy Pond and The Bunny Hop Park is in your area?

Well, right next to the Pikitup depot in Sandringham, which Andrea Berzen and a dedicated team have developed and transformed what was once an illegal dumping site.

They established the 40 000m² eco-park to bring nature closer to the community.

The park also allows people to grow their own organic fruit and vegetables on 100 plots of land which vary in size. Those who wish to grow their goodies will be required to pay a minimum fee of R80 a month. Student farmers are required to pay a fee of R200 a year and can keep 70 percent of their produce.

Grade 7 boys of King David in Linksfield are actively involved in the project and have created 60 boxes in which vegetables and herbs have been planted as part of their Life Orientation project. They visit the park weekly to water their plants.

The Froggy Pond and The Bunny Hop Park rescued many bunnies that were wandering around the Sandringham area. The eco-park offers educational outings for pre-schools as well as primary schools. A play area is available and allows for children to interact with the animals and learn more about them.

The eco-park has many plans in the pipeline and its main aim is to completely revitalise the once dumping site.

Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger paid a visit to the park and said, “This community project has been planned for many years and it is finally coming together nicely.”

Children of the Snow White Day Care Centre also visited the eco-park and were filled with excitement as it was the first time many of them got to touch and see bunnies.

The grand opening will take place on 15 November, and families are welcome to come and enjoy a fun day out with the animals. The opening will take place from 10.30am to 3pm.
