Culinary gold at The Goldmine Café

JOBURG - City Buzz has found a little piece of history – a goldmine of sorts – and we’re going to share it with you.

The Goldmine Café is located just next to The Reef Hotel and is situated less than a kilometre from the site where the first gold was struck in the City of Gold.

Property developer, Isaac Chalumbir, together with co-owner and hotelier, Gustav Krampe, opened the café in 2013, and it pays homage to the rich history in the area through its name and the décor used in the shop.

While the café does form part of The Reef Hotel, it has its own charm and appeal that is a little more relaxed than the elite hotel connected to it.

Decorated with hard hats worn by miners and construction workers, and the pick-axe chipped industrial-style cemented walls and counters, the restaurant could be the super trendy lunchtime hangout inside a mine itself.

The café is frequented not only by the business people who are staying at the hotel, but also the trendy socialites and students who find themselves near the banking district of the Johannesburg CBD.

What makes the café so appealing to all kinds of people is the wide variety of food offered there. It ranges from burgers, to buffets, traditional items, items from the grill and even pasta.

There’s something for everyone in the city at The Goldmine Café situated opposite The Turret.
