Two arrested for unlicensed firearm

YEOVILLE – Two men aged between 20 and 25 have been arrested by Yeoville police for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On 30 October at about 9.30 pm, police received information about two men who were allegedly attempting to rob people on the corner of Mons and Arthur streets.

Constable Thabo Malatjie from Yeoville Police Station said, “Yeoville police drove to the street and monitored the situation, they noticed two males walking around the street and when they approached them the suspects tried to run but they were stopped.”

The police searched the two men and found a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off on one of the suspects. They were taken to Yeoville Police Station for detention. They are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
