Spooky George Hay Park for Halloween

PARKVIEW - Haloween brought the community of Parkview together for a party full of entertainment and fun.

George Hay Park in Parkview was full of spooky beings at the Parkview Residents’ Association’s annual Halloween party.

Community members gathered in their Halloween costumes, and candy galore was the order of the evening for the trick or treating children.

“The turnout at our bash is always fantastic and I’ve heard from many mums that it is the highlight of their kids’ calendars and they count the sleeps in anticipation,” said Theresa Gibbon, the association’s communications and marketing officer.

“For some, dancing on the stage is their favourite part of Halloween. One mum said that she hadn’t had so much fun in years dancing with her toddler on the stage.”

Gibbon encouraged other residents’ associations to organise events such as these in their suburbs. “It is also a good way to meet neighbours and to build communities. I’d be happy to give them advice or input into putting a cost effective Halloween activity together.”

Jo Giles, a Parkview resident, commended the association for the well-organised event. “We had a family from Bedfordview who could not get over the community involvement,” said Giles.

“We are very privileged to be part of it.”

Residents brought their whole family along, including their dogs, to the event that was packed with entertainment, games, activities and a best-dressed competition.

“Every year I think my kids must be getting too big to go the George Hay Park for Halloween,” said an attendee, Anna Joubert.

“We are there every year. I can blissfully sit on the outer edge of the park and watch and be amused and just smile.”

Another resident, Marianne Mundell said, “A really fun, well-organised event. It was the first time we had attended and I was blown away by the huge turnout, the mix of age groups and great atmosphere. My kids loved it and wanted to know if they could go back again the next day.”
